Documentation and Use Cases for Climate Action

Project TitleDocumentation and Use Cases for Climate Action
Status

COMPLETED

Difficulty

LOW

Description

The Carbon Accounting and Certification Working Group is developing an Operating System for Climate Action, which is a set of applications for obtaining and certifying data, creating tradeable tokens for emissions and offsets, and using DAO's to coordinate collective action.

As part of this project, we're looking for technical writers who could help both document the technologies and how they could be applied to actual use cases.  We've started with a few ideas and would like your help refining them with actual or potential projects.  We'd also like help reaching out to and interviewing potential users of the applications to get their feedback on how they could be used.

Additional Information

For background, see the Carbon Accounting and Certification Working Group and Operating System for Climate Action wiki pages.

To check out the code, see https://github.com/hyperledger-labs/blockchain-carbon-accounting.

See the utility-emissions-channel/README.mdnet-emissions-token-network/README.md, and Building an Ethereum App tutorials.

See Virtual Renewable Energy Network Project for an example of a use case.

Learning Objectives

As part of this project, you will learn about

  • Blockchain technologies including Hyperledger Fabric and Ethereum
  • Applications such as Distributed Autonomous Organizations (DAO's)
  • Interviewing skills
  • Technical writing and documentation

Expected Outcome

Improved documentation of the blockchain carbon accounting applications.  Tutorials on how to develop and enhance the applications.  Use cases for the applications.

Relation to Hyperledger

This project is part of the Hyperledger Labs blockchain-carbon-accounting project and the Climate Action SIG

Education Level

Skills

Familiarity with programming concepts.  Strong technical writing skills.

Future plans

After the conclusion of the project, you can join us for more development in the Climate Action SIG as well as get involved in production climate blockchains that drive climate action that include tokens and DAO's.

Preferred Hours and Length of Internship

Part time.  Three to six months.
