2022-1H Supply Chain & Trade Finance SIG Report

Supply Chain & Trade Finance -SIG Overall Health

The Supply Chain & Trade Finance SIG is relatively healthy and continues to build the community. After some initial bumps, the new combination of the Supply Chain and Trade Finance SIGs is starting to work better. We’ve had 8 webinars with approximately 240 attendees and good uptake on the YouTube recordings. We now have 2754 followers on our new combined LinkedIn page thanks to the work of Andrea Frosinini. In addition, we know that sustainability is an important topic so we have put some focus on how we can bring that to life.

Our continued goal is to bring value to Hyperledger and to the community. We anticipated being able to formulate and start some bigger project in 1H2022 but were unable to get started on a suitable project.  We look forward to continuing to offer webinars in 2H2022 and will be working to create a suitable project that can get members more involved.

Issues and Challenges

  • We’ve found it easier to use Linked than confluence so use it as our primary communication method.
  • Technical skills are limited so difficult to create projects involving code.
  • We are getting a few new individuals to participate but would like to see more enterprise participation.

Overall Activity in the last 6 months

  • Merged the Supply Chain and Trade Finance SIGs.  Erik Valiquette, Tom Klein, and Andrea Frosinini are the co-chairs.
  • Have created a combined wiki thanks to Tomaz.
  • Have 2754 followers of the Hyperledger Supply Chain and Trade Finance LinkedIn page.
  • Hosted webinars around GS1 projects, MOBI battery tracing, raw material tracing, ICC trade finance standards, and sustainable payments amongst others. Putting the recordings on YouTube has increased reach and awareness of our SIG. One webinar was slotted for APAC audiences.

Planned Work Products

  • Find a suitable project and use case to add value to the community and, catalyze blockchain usage.
  • Refreshing the Supply Chain & Trade Finance SIG wiki page to make it more engaging.
  • Look for opportunities to do joint work with other SIGs.

Participant Diversity

  • Still needs work across all dimensions. Based on observations, our biggest gaps are
    • Women/POC - ongoing
    • Getting different geographies involved
    • Technical skills – still lacking.
    • Folks from enterprises. We feel we need to focus on this
  • We are open to ideas from the Hyperledger team on how to continue evolving.
