Dear Climate Action & Accounting SIG members,
I hope this message finds you well in 2025! As the new Chair for this SIG in 2025, taking the handover from Sherwood Moore and Kamlesh Nagware, my first activity is to foster and collect 2025 project ideas from those with interest in this SIG. As we continue to explore impactful ways to engage and expand our knowledge, I’d like to gather your ideas for potential activities and initiatives. All ideas are welcome throughout the year and needed to keep our SIG at the forefront of this critical topic.
Suggesting a new 2025 project or effort for this SIG does not require you to work on the project yourself - only if you choose. The key for the SIG is to collect ideas.
Below, I'm just tossing up some categories based on work in our SIG over the past few years. Please feel free to add more as you see fit. Furthermore, our SIG will also focus on developing forward-thinking ideas for solutions applicable to global carbon accounting.
Expert Presentations: Inviting climate or carbon accounting experts to share insights on the current state of global GHG emission policies and trends.
Technical Presentations: Exploring advanced topics such as:
The best Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platforms for climate applications.
How climate data can be stored as immutable blockchain transactions.
Solutions for managing and storing large volumes of GHG emission IoT data.
Can LFDT blockchain platforms solve challenges with collecting Scope 3 emission data?
Projects (Listed in Linux Foundation "Labs")
Brainstorming technical projects, such as creating a solution to more easily capture Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
Identifying opportunities for mentorship or lab-based collaboration on these projects
Publications: Collaborating with climate experts to produce publications that can contribute to the broader conversation on GHG emissions and sustainable solutions.
Your input and creativity are crucial to shaping our upcoming activities! If you have ideas or know experts who could contribute, please share your thoughts in our SIG meeting.
Looking forward to your suggestions. Let’s make a meaningful impact together!
Best regards,
Jeff Pribich
2025 Chair Climate Action & Accounting SIG (CA2)
