2025 Chair Climate Action & Accounting SIG (CA2)
Meeting Notes: February 11, 2025
Future meetings will be conducted when there is ample content to discuss from any member of this SIG.
It was brought forward the idea of conducting separate meetings to account for the vast differences in global time. This may allow for higher attendance at meetings when the time frame is more suitable for regions.
A discussion focusing on future projects in this SIG and the mechanics associated with bringing projects forward to the SIG. Alfonso Govela provided a much needed background on how projects are determined within SIGs and the lack of a clear bridge between LFDT members and LFDT committees. It may be helpful for LFDT members to be more knowledgeable of the efforts underway in the SIGs. Christiaan Pauw also provided information in the steps needed to bring projects forward to help raise attendance and interest.
Jeff Pribich and Elisabeth Green spoke about meetings with climate "experts" who don't answer any technical questions. An action is to attend the upcoming seminar on February 20th at 10:00 PST by the “Climate Center” addressing a reformation of California’s cap-and-trade program. Our SIG will bring forward in the panel discussion the idea to replace cap-and-trade with the Emissions Token Network at https://emissions-test.opentaps.org/request .
