2025-1H Supply Chain & Trade Finance SIG Report
Jeff Pribich (U.S.) has the role of Chair, which became effective 01/01/2025.
Date: July 10, 2025
Overall Health
A new initiative is underway to bring supply chain and trade finance experts into the SIG, with a focus on those who are skilled in providing the latest information on the digitization of supply chain and trade finance documents and associated technologies.
The SIG has experienced a continued low level of activity throughout the first half of 2025, extending the downward trend observed in the latter half of 2024. Bi-weekly meetings have seen minimal attendance, often limited to just one or two participants. In response to this sustained decline, a new meeting strategy has been implemented: regular bi-weekly meetings are no longer automatically scheduled. Instead, meetings will now be convened on an as-needed basis, such as when a topical webinar is organized or when a SIG member initiates interest. This approach remains flexible and subject to change; if engagement improves, the SIG will resume its bi-weekly meeting cadence.
What's Working Well
Focus and effort are now applied toward increased participation in this SIG. Pathways under discussion include reaching out through LinkedIn and expanding the invite list for future meetings. As mentioned above in this report, a meeting will be scheduled whereupon leading edge information is available for presentation. The objective is for this approach to garner more ongoing interest in the SIG.
This group is to be more tightly aligned with the Carbon Accounting and Action SIG(CA2SIG) due to Greenhouse gas emissions(GHG) from transportation, as a significant portion of overall global emissions.
Andrea Frosinini continues to publish a weekly news digest to over 4K LinkedIn profiles. This is a valuable informative media publication describing the state of global supply chains and trade finance with a focus on digitization and the use of new technologies.
This group and CA2SIG are engaged in a joint project to produce a solution and technical architecture for the development of a digital twin. The digital twin will enable supply chains real-time measurement of carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions from supply chains. In addition, modeling of a supply chain to reduce and optimize GHG emissions to net zero is a primary function.
The first “joint SIG” Meetup presentation from the digital twin vendor SimWell is scheduled for September 19th.
Issues and Challenges
As previously mentioned in the “Overall Health” section of this report, there is a very low level of attendance in our group SIG meetings at this time, forcing a change in scheduling.
No new SC-TF SIG projects to date have been proposed. This reflects low attendance.
There is a need to ensure all LFDT parties are in agreement on what content is presented from vendors in our presentations.
Thus far, we are short-staffed in our efforts to contact firms for presentations. To increase interest in this SIG, there is a need to host presentations that are focused on very topical subjects related to climate accounting and the impact on climate change. Bringing on a mentee will free up more time, away from the NZDT architecture project, to spend time researching and contacting firms.
Overall Activity in the last 6 months
The SIG has focused 90% of its efforts on the net-zero digital twin architecture.
The remaining time has been spent on
Planned Work Products
Rather quickly, a strategy to increase interest in this SIG and enable it to move forward and be more viable. Thoughts thus fare are the following:
Utilize Meetup for presentations in place of the Zoom link. This may be a better approach to highlight our presentations.
Integrate a LinkedIn group with close to 1 million users. We have placed a very short sample of our architecture work on the digital twin on this LinkedIn site.
Hosting future webinars.
SIG is discussing the continuation of the blog series with focus on the latest use and economic advantages of using digital twins in supply chains and trade finance.
Contribute expert knowledge on the operation of supply chains to the net-zero digital twin project.
