A presentation by Mani Pillai, CEO otcDigital
The current capital markets have evolved from paper-based to siloed electronic and digital records-based platforms. The trading platforms are built independently by stakeholders including buy-side, sell-side, custodians, middle-ware providers, etc. The books and records on these systems are independently maintained based on the “I owe you” concept and reconciled with other systems, typically at end-of-day (EOD).
By leveraging tokenization on blockchains, inter-party ledger technologies, and a digital standard - The Common Domain Model (CDM), a shared data, platform and network infrastructure can be built for all market participants, leading to standardization and automation. Shared infrastructure eliminates reconciliations and encourages market participants to focus solely on building functions that focus on competitive advantages. Automation of capital markets results in substantial savings operating costs and also fosters interoperability and more product innovation. A combination of revolution and evolution that is the true mark of innovation.
